She was born in Opelika, AL on November 10, 1926 to Emma George Capps Jones and Edward McCurdy Jones. Em met her beloved husband Henry while he was on temporary leave from the Air Force in 1945. They met again and began dating after the war ended, while both were attending Auburn University, where Em was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. They graduated in 1948 and married that same year. They spent 61 wonderful years married and raised four children. Em and Henry moved to Winston-Salem in 1964 where they joined Centenary United Methodist Church. Em's love of history and culture led her to develop an interest in the city's Moravian heritage. She spent many years as a docent for the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in Old Salem. She loved collecting antique quilts and country furniture. Her civic interests moved her to volunteer at Forsyth Hospital and for Senior Services with Meals on Wheels. Em's love of wildflowers led to her joining a women's hiking group which she enjoyed for many years. She was an avid gardener. She always embraced adventure and travel. She learned to fly airplanes as a teenager. Em and Henry made many trips to foreign countries. They loved meeting people and learning about their cultures making lifelong friends wherever they lived and traveled.
