APPLEFIELD WINSTON-SALEM - The Rev. Dr. Pauline "Polly" Francis Applefield, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009 after a 4 year battle with cancer. Polly was born January 3rd, 1950, in Pittsburgh, PA to Gerald and Martha Becker. She graduated from Bethany College and earned a doctorate in Psychology from Penn State. She was a college professor for over 20 years, including 17 years at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, touching the lives of countless students. In 2000, she graduated from Moravian Theological Seminary. She served several congregations as pastor and interim pastor in the Winston-Salem area, until her retirement in 2006. Her pastoral gifts gave lasting spiritual guidance to those she so eagerly served. Polly is survived by her mother; sisters, Patricia Becker of Palo Alto, CA and Geraldine Kearney and her husband, Patrick of Coraopolis, PA; brother, Philip Becker and wife, Melodie and their children, Todd and Corey of Bethel Park, PA; her son, Drew Applefield of Carrboro, NC, her daughter, Rachel Applefield of Wilmington, NC; and the father of her children, James Applefield of Wilmington, NC. Services will be held at Trinity Moravian Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, preceded by a visitation with the family at 1 p.m. Internment will be at God's Acre in Old Salem. Memorials may be given to Trinity Moravian Church, 225 E. Sprague St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Susan G.
