Feb 11, 1930 - Oct 10, 2009
Forsyth County, NC
Mrs. Margaret Mock Ketchie, 79, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 10, 2009. She was born February 11, 1930, to the late Montique and Louise Mock, and was the youngest sister of the late John Mock and the late Edith Mock Cook. She lived most of her life in Winston-Salem and attended Griffith School where she graduated Valedictorian. She went to Women’s College (UNC-G) and worked in the law office of Dennis Spry before joining RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company where she retired after 21 years. She was married to the late James Luther Ketchie at Trinity Moravian Church and they were married for 50 years. Mrs. Ketchie is survived by a son, James Michael Ketchie, two daughers, Melanie Ketchie Carlson (Ken) and Christina Ketchie Stearns (George), and five grandchildren, LT, USN Christopher Michael Ketchie(Caitlin)currently deployed to Afghanistan, Dr. Lindsay Carlson Veazey (John), Elizabeth Abbott Carlson, Kathryn Louise Carlson, Alexander James Stearns, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Lee Ketchie, and three nieces and two nephews. Mr. and Mrs. Ketchie were among the founding families when St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church was built where she spent many years active in various ministries including the church melodramas. Nothing was more important to Mrs. Ketchie than her family and grandchildren. She loved to dance, loved big band music and opera. She had a wonderful, feisty way about her and a great sense of humor. Mrs. Ketchie was in the loving care of Hospice during the last several months of her life. The family cannot express their level of gratitude to Margaret’s around-the-clock caregivers, Tandra, Janice, Gloria, Jeanette and Cynthia. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Friday, October 16 at 6pm in the Chapel at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 2575 Parkway Drive in Winston-Salem. The service will be followed by a reception party to honor Margaret’s life at the home of her daughter, Melanie Carlson, 1281 Chester Road in Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
