Miss Ruby Elizabeth Shermer, 75, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Clemmons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Miss Shermer was born in Winston-Salem on March 26, 1933 to the late Arthur L. and Sallie Spillman Shermer. She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1951 where she played violin in the school orchestra for four years. She attended Bob Jones University and was a member of Stanleyville Baptist Church. In her younger years she did secretarial work. On going illness required that she be in assisted living facilities for most of her adult life. She was preceded in death by one sister, Harriet Martin, one brother, Fred Shermer, one niece, Beth Allen and one nephew, Terry Martin. Surviving are one sister and brother in law: Blanche and Tom Allen, Winston-Salem, and one brother and sister in law: Henry and Juanita Shermer, Clemmons, and many nieces and nephews and other family members. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Yadkinville by Rev. Brian C. Allen. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the donor’s choice.
