Samantha Gray Steffen
Aug 13, 1973 - Sep 21, 2008
Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, NC
Winston-Salem - Samantha Gray Steffen passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the age of 35, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. A service in celebration of her life will be held at 6 pm on Thursday October 2 at Maple Springs United Methodist Church on Reynolda Road. The family hopes everyone who knew, worked with or loved Samantha will attend. Samantha is survived by her wonderful daughter Katie, by her beloved siblings Paul and Natalie and by her parents Janet and Ramon Gray. Born, raised and originally educated in the UK, Samantha attended the University of Central Florida when she was 18 and graduated with a law degree from the University of Florida in Gainsville thus achieving her life long ambition to become a lawyer. Although most of her friends in the USA only knew Samantha after she had been diagnosed with brain tumours some nine years ago, she always remained positive and thankful for their friendship. Together with a very English sense of humour, and a certain grace and charm that she maintained throughout her long illness, she was always fun to be with. Only a few days before her passing she was sitting up in bed singing “Crocodile Rock” and laughing with visitors though she knew well her own destiny. Samantha would want us to mention here the incredible support she received from the staff at the Baptist Medical Centre, from her fellow workers and friends at Kilpatrick Stockton and the ministers and congregation of Maple Springs Church. Much of the last few years of Samantha’s life were dedicated to playing, educating and stimulating her daughter Katie who is much loved, cherished and will continue to be supported by all of her English family. The family will receive friends after the service. Flowers will be accepted but Samantha would prefer donations to be sent to the Wind River Cancer Centre (go to www.WindRiverServices.com to make a donation) where Samantha spent time shortly before her passing
