Jami Ross Wilkerson Avent passed away February 13, 2017 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Guy Wilkerson, Jr., Anne Boyle Fain, stepfather James R. Fain and a brother John Boyle Wilkerson. She leaves behind a beloved son, Noah Wilkerson of Winston-Salem, a devoted husband Doug Avent, and his children Mitchell and Darby. Also surviving her are a brother Dewey Guy Wilkerson, III, and wife, Jan and their four children, Chelsi, Kidd, Kane and Drake. She attended the North Carolina School of the Arts and graduated from East Carolina University with a B.S.A. degree in dance and drama. After college, she studied in New York at the Actor’s Studio under Greg Zittel. Jami Ross performed in several Off Broadway plays, many regional shows and judged hosts of dance competitions. Later, she returned to her native Winston-Salem where she was a dance instructor and also a former student at The Academy of Dance Arts. At the same time, she was a Dancing Classrooms teacher with the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System and a fitness instructor at Women’s Wellness. Her love of dance, the arts and teaching were truly a gift to the community and all of her students. Her favorite pastimes were waterskiing, shopping for “treasures” and spending time at the lake. Jami Ross leaves behind numerous friends, all over the world, that loved and adored her. The family wishes to thank Dr. Eugene Paschold and his staff as well as Hospice and Palliative Care. A memorial service will be held at Hope Presbyterian Church at 2050 N. Peace Haven Road on Friday, February 17 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Cancer Services, 3175 Maplewood Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. My heartfelt condolences to all that loved Jami. She was and always will be a shining star.
Much love, support and peace to her family.
Please accept my most sincere condolences in the loss of your wife. Words are hard to express in times like this but, please know if I can do anything for you just let me know. Just know that Martha and I will keep you and your family in our prayers and thoughts through this difficult time.
I just wanted to express my deepest sympathies. When we lose our dear loved ones we know they're finally at peace, and yet, it is still so hard to part ways with them. No doubt this is a difficult time for you, but please draw comfort from the fact that soon our Heavenly Father will address this issue. He will make death "no more”, here on Earth, and also bring back our loved ones that have already "fallen asleep" so that we have a chance to be reunited (2Cor 1:3,4 Rev 21:3,4 John 5:28,29 & 1 Thess 4:14). Again, please accept my condolences

Doug, Noah and Family-
Please know your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers. Jami was a beautiful Lady with such great love for all, she will be dearly missed. We pray God surrounds all of you with his love and lets you feel his presents. I hope you have peace knowing Jami is home with her Heavenly Father and at peace. What a woman of faith and such an inspiration to us all.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please make this the opportunity to rely completely on God. At Psalm 46:1 we find a great comfort, "God is our refuge and strength, A help that is readily found in times of distress." He promises to comfort us and strengthen us during tough times. My deepest condolences, Carmen Sheffield.

Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers were with you and Jami throughout her illness. Although we did not know her well, after meeting her at Alec's and Drake's wedding, hearing Drake speak so lovingly of her Aunt Jami, and spending time with her precious son,Noah, we couldn't help but love her too. Her time here was far, far too short. Her energy and beauty will be missed but not as much as the love of life and family she so strongly held in her heart. Heaven holds another angle in its arms as we hold Jami in our hearts forever.
Jami Ross and her mom were very dear to my mother. I am so sorry to hear of her death. Guy and family, sending you all love and strength.
