David P. Arend
Jun 30, 1935 - May 12, 2016
David P. Arend, 80, passed away on Thursday, May 12 at Universal Health Care in King. He was born on June 30, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan to the late Margaret and Albert Arend. Following graduation from St. John High School in Jackson, he worked in several manufacturing plants which led to a transfer to Charlotte, NC in 1969 where he worked until 1975. He then transferred to Winston-Salem and worked for the company which would become Sonoco Products where he was a purchasing agent for the next 25 years. Dave and Sandy were one of the founding families of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons. David’s passion was landscaping and he served the church by leading a volunteer grounds crew to handle the church’s landscaping needs. He later took a position maintaining the church building and continued his passion for the upkeep of the grounds. Mr. Arend is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia Arend Freeman; and brothers Gerald A. Arend, and Donald P. Arend. David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra L. Smith, son Edward A. Arend, of Seattle, WA, daughter Stephanie Arend Spence (Michael) of Winston Salem and his sister Mary Helen Potter of Florida. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Steve Hoyt at Holy Family Catholic Church on Friday, May 27th at 11:00 am. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Dear Family, May the outpouring of sympathy and love envelope you at this difficult time. Please accept my condolences for your loss. Even though I am not personally acquainted with your family, I do know the pain of losing someone so precious as a family member. Here are a few Bible scriptures that really helped my family. It's my sincere hope that you will be comforted and strengthened by them, too. Psalm 34:18; Psalm 94:19; Acts 24:15; 1 Corinthians 15:26; Revelation 21:4. A good site to visit for more comfort is JW.org (search "comfort") Take good care.
