Adrian Rice Shore
Adrian Rice Shore, 83, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 after a long illness. Adrian was born August 24, 1932 in Winston-Salem to Thomas Botts Rice, Sr. and Mary Louise Moore Rice. She attended Summit School on Summit Street and upon graduation attended The Madeira School in Greenway, VA. She completed Junior College at Finch in NYC. Adrian came home to Winston-Salem, marrying Robert Dicks Shore, Jr. in June 1954. Homemaking and raising a family came naturally to Adrian. She found great joy in feathering her nest and creating a loving home for her beloved husband, Bob, and their three children. Adrian had a deep love for nature and all of God’s creatures. The family pets ranged from the usual cats, dogs, birds, bunnies and gerbils to the more exotic which even included an alligator! She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, feeding the birds, walking her dogs, bridge with friends and anything that included family. Always embracing her husband's and children’s interests and hobbies, she could be found bobbing on a deep sea fishing boat, diving into waves, seining in the wee night hours or following a horse van all over NC. She entertained often and with great cheer, opening her doors and heart to all ages. Adrian was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. And her laugh. It was wonderful, infectious and exercised often. In her quiet faith, Adrian attended Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church where she worshiped, served and enjoyed studying the Bible. She often attended Home Moravian Church where Bob was raised. They enjoyed attending services together and sharing their love of God. Heaven is brighter as it welcomes Adrian. Our hearts sing as she is reunited with her loving husband Bob and grandson Robert Adrian Shore, Jr. She leaves behind her adoring children Marree Shore Townsend and son-in-law John L. Townsend III of Greenwich, CT; Robert Adrian Shore and daughter-in-law Nora C. Shore of Greenville, SC and Lou Shore Winship of Atlanta, GA. Her precious grandchildren are Merritt Townsend Patridge and husband Adam, Louise Townsend Duckett and husband Will, Royall Venning Shore, Evelyn Lacey Outten, Blanton Cortelyou Winship, Jr., North Winship II and Alexander Shore Winship. She is survived by two brothers Thomas Botts Rice, Jr. and Robert Williams Rice. Adrian held close in her heart two loving companions, Dorothy Sprinkle and Robin Howard. The family would like to recognize the exceptional care of her at-home nursing team Irene Church, Myrtle Church, Gail McWethy, Stacy Thomas, Dollie White and Nancy Yountz. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 with a reception following in the Colhoun Room. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to The Medical Foundation of NC, Inc-Robert A. Shore, Jr. Research Fund, 880 Airport Road, PO Box 7565, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7565; Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 520 Summit Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101; Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or The Winston-Salem Foundation, 860 W.
