Joseph J.rod Koontz

Mr. Joseph J.rod Koontz, 55, of Salisbury, died peacefully while sleeping on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Koontz was born in Asheville on September 29, 1952 to the late Douglas J.rod and Maxine Leonard Koontz. He was a graduate of R.J.Reynolds High School and attended Forsyth Technical Institute. Mr. Koontz had worked for Hanes Dye & Finishing and Burlington Furniture in Manufacturing. A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he served one year of his active duty time on the U.S.S. Iwo Jima. Mr. Koontz is survived by one brother, Kurt Douglas Koontz and wife, Beverly, of High Point; two nieces, Jennifer and Emily, and one nephew, Douglas; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. A special -Thank you- to all of his good friends at Joyce and Carlos' group home in Salisbury and a -Very Special Thank You- to Carlos and Joyce Parra for all of their love and caring for J.rod during the last six years. Visitation will be at 10:00am on Friday, November 16, followed by an 11:00am funeral service at Salem Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. 5TH Street, Winston-Salem, NC, 27101.
