Rachel Wallace Stewart Smith, 88, passed away on October 18, 2012. She was born in Charlotte, N.C. on April 26, 1924 to Ivey W. Stewart and Lillian Wallace Stewart. She was educated in the Charlotte City schools, Stuart Hall, Staunton, Virginia, and graduated from Salem Academy, and the OgantzJunior College, Rydal, Pennsylvania. In April, 1948, she married Eugene Gray Smith, Jr. and moved to Winston-Salem. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Junior League of Charlotte and of Winston-Salem, Westwood Garden Club, and was a former trustee of Salem Academy and College.
She is survived by a daughter, Stewart Smith Perry (Wes) of Kinston, N.C., a son, Eugene Gray Smith III (Leigh) of Winston-Salem, and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 22, at 1:00 at Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte.
